BOSTON, MA – August 30, 2017 – WHOOP, the human performance company, today announced that the WHOOP App, previously only available on iPhone, is now available for Android devices on Google Play. When paired with any WHOOP Strap 2.0, the app provides physiological data, analysis and actionable insights that help athletes and coaches tailor their training, improve their sleep and maximize their performance.
“Almost immediately after the release of WHOOP for iPhone, we started receiving requests from Android users who wanted WHOOP for their device. It’s become a top priority for us, and I’m proud of our team at WHOOP for delivering the app three weeks ahead of schedule,” said Will Ahmed, founder and CEO of WHOOP. “The new WHOOP App for Android has been thoughtfully designed with an athlete’s needs and feedback in mind. It focuses on empowering athletes to unlock their peak performance and is compatible with the most popular Android devices currently on the market.”
The WHOOP App collects over 100MB of biometric data per day via the WHOOP strap, measuring five key metrics, including heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), ambient temperature, motion and movement skin response.
Prior to today’s announcement, over 200 elite athletes, including NFL players and Olympians, were given early access to test the beta version of the WHOOP App for Android, providing feedback and recommendations to improve the user experience.
“As an athlete, avoiding injuries is a top priority in order to have as long and healthy of a career as possible,” said Adam Vinatieri, Indianapolis Colts placekicker and WHOOP App for Android beta tester. “WHOOP recognizes that I’m not an athlete three hours a day, but 24/7. It has been essential in helping me prioritize sleep and recovery, which has allowed me to train smarter. Thanks to WHOOP, I've got a competitive advantage come game day.”
