WHOOP X Clear Press Release
NEW REPORT SPOTLIGHTS HOW ROAD WARRIORS CAN HELP MINIMIZE SOME OF THE 80 MINUTES OF SLEEP LOSS AND STRESS RELATED TO AIR TRAVEL. CLEAR and WHOOP collaborate on a survey to understand the adverse effects of air travel on the body, including changes to sleep, stress and overall well-being. Results reveal how CLEAR members benefit from more sleep and less stress.
Tossing and turning the nights before and after air travel are common. In fact, a new report reveals, on average, road warriors lose one hour of sleep the night before takeoff and 20 minutes on the night they traveled. Moreover, it typically takes about five days to fully regain lost sleep, and seven days to return to “normal” stress levels after air travel. However, this same report spotlights the tools available to combat these adverse travel effects. Against the backdrop of one of busiest summer travel on record, the new survey from CLEAR (NYSE: YOU) and WHOOP, the human performance company with a 24/7 health and fitness wearable and accompanying app, shows CLEAR members experience less sleep disruption than the average traveler. The secure identity company collaborated with WHOOP to better understand the impact of travel on the body and understand if and how a CLEAR membership can reduce stress levels for airport travelers. The results validated that jetsetters can, indeed, benefit from a CLEAR membership, with members sleeping a little easier and managing stress better than typical travelers. Between Nov. 1, 2023 and May 13, 2024, thousands of WHOOP members monitored the effects of stress and sleep during air travel. Survey highlights include: - While travelers generally lose about an hour of sleep the night before air travel, CLEAR Members lose about 10 minutes less sleep than non-Members, averaging just 52 minutes of sleep loss compared to 62 minutes for those without a traveler program.
- On the day of air travel, CLEAR members spend about 4% less time in higher stress zones compared to those without a traveler program, and instead spend that time in low-stress zones.
- When members are jet lagged, experiencing symptoms such as sleep disturbances, difficulty concentrating, irritability, and loss of appetite, they lose about 20 minutes of sleep and the sleep quality itself drops. However, respondents’ sympathetic system is more activated while experiencing jet lag, as shown by a slightly increased resting heart rate and decreased heart rate variability.
