WHOOP Empowers the Fittest Athletes On Earth to Unlock Their Peak Performance at Elite Competition
BOSTON, MA – July 26, 2017 – WHOOP, the human performance company, today announced that 37 elite athletes, including Team Back Bay, Brooke Wells and Chyna Cho, as well as rookies Alec Smith and Paul Castillo, are training on the WHOOP Performance Optimization System in preparation for the 2017 Games on August 3-6 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin. The athletes will push their physical limits to the extreme during a 4-day series of events designed to uniquely test each individual’s strength, endurance, and recovery – all in an effort to claim the title of “Fittest on Earth.”“We’re proud that these elite athletes have chosen WHOOP to reach their potential in pursuit of the title of ‘Fittest on Earth’,” said Will Ahmed, WHOOP Founder and CEO. “These are athletes that face incredible strain and optimizing their recovery is core to their success.”
Two full teams, including Team Back Bay, and 21 of the 80 individual athletes competing at the Games are currently wearing the WHOOP Strap 2.0, a lightweight, waterproof and screenless design that’s worn on the wrist or forearm, and automatically measures and analyzes an athlete’s Strain, Recovery and Sleep. When paired with the WHOOP Strap, the WHOOP mobile and web app provides physiological data, analysis and actionable recommendations that help athletes and coaches tailor their training, improve their sleep and maximize performance.
“The sport is extremely demanding, and requires me and my teammates to understand what our bodies need and are capable of, not only at competitions and practice, but around the clock as well,” said Molly Abgarian, Team Back Bay. “WHOOP has been invaluable, teaching me to train smarter than ever, reducing my risk of injury and overtraining. By providing me with deeper insights on my Recovery and Strain not only before and after workouts, but throughout the rest of my day as well, WHOOP has helped me prioritize rest and recovery to achieve peak performance.”
WHOOP measures five key metrics more than 100 times per second to give athletes scores on strain and sleep performance, recovery and sleep coaching, including: Heart rate Heart rate variability (HRV) Ambient temperature Motion and Movement Skin Response
